Objectives - 2-3 piece of information new to be gained through this assessment.

What are the specific protection needs of women, men, boys, and girls and individuals with disabilities? What is the breakdown by age and sex? What are the continued risks for each group?
What factors increase tensions, and how do they affect women, men, boys and girls? How does the spread of weapons affect women, men, boys and girls?
What are the potential areas of intervention to focus on in terms of protection and gender? What are the inter-sectoral response plans that can be generated from the collected evidence.

Tools and methodologies - mixed methods approach to include both qualitative and quantitative data collection.

Qualitative – KI informant interviews conducted with community leaders. A hybrid tool will be used referencing data points from both the KI interview tool and the community leader tool. In total there will be an estimated eight KI interviews conducted with male and females well known within the community along with the FGDs.

Quantitative – household data collection survey conducted in neighbourhoods identified by Community Leaders as vulnerable. The HH survey tool will be adapted to the scope of interest. An estimated total of 1,500 surveys will be administered to have a statistical representation for the five vulnerable areas.

Demographic for the Focus Group Discussions (FGD) –

A total of 12 number of FGDs will be conducted. Half will be conducted with females and the other half with males. The demographic scope of the FGDs will be youth, adults, and elderly. Four FGDs will be conducted within each age group.

Interest Youth (18-34) Adults (35-59) Elderly (over 60) Total
Male  II II II 6
Female  II II II 6
Total 4 4 4 12

Staffing plan –

For the data collection, the staff plan is divided among those personnel which will be working on qualitative data collection, quantitative data collection and support staff. Support staff are referred her as drivers. For qualitative data collection four staff are needed in total, two for each gender group, one who will transcribe and the other who will facilitate the discussion.

For the quantitative data collection, a total of 12 staff are needed, 6 for each gender group. Within each gender group one will be the field coordinator and the remaining five will be the enumerators that will carry out the data collection.

Female  2 6 3 11

Risk mitigation measures

Risk – Receive biased information from KI interviews or HH surveys.

Mitigation measure: Work through local community structures to gain trust and access to those most affected. Ensure they are well informed of the objectives of the study.

Risk – Interviewees in some areas are unwilling to participate in the survey.

Mitigation measure: Survey questions will respect humanitarian protection guidelines and respondents will be approached in a courteous and respectful manner, while emphasising the importance of the information gathered. If interviewees refuse, the next case amongst the randomly selected will be added to the sample

Risk – Unable to receive sufficient gender representation of interviewees.

Mitigation measure: Work with local women’s organisations to find out the best ways to receive women’s participation in the study.
