Dr. Rider’s research and practice experience has focused on the relationship between the design culture and the notion of sustainability, and involves design culture and the influence of sustainability; human – environment relations, including allowances and affordances; inclusionary and universal design; designed spaces for environmental education; design for special populations including children and the elderly; and community engagement strategies. Her research also focuses on community design and the role of design and impact on the quality of life and the natural environment. She has authored Understanding Green Building Guidelines (W.W. Norton 2009) and co-authored Understanding Green Building Materials W.W. Norton 2011), and frequently presents at academic and professional conferences on green, sustainability, integrated design and community engagement.
