Tommaso Durante is an award-winning visual artist, a freelance lecturer in History and Theory of Art and an academic researcher. He moved from Italy to Australia in 2001 under a visa for ‘distinguished talent’ for art. His academic research addresses the intersection of the social (global) imaginary with aesthetics and ideology through the lens of social and political theory. More specifically he is interested in theorising aesthetics of change through visual images, in developing critical approaches to cultural flows and understanding the relationship between nation-state, ideological power and globalization processes.
