Dr. Susan Lewis Hammond joined the School of Music at the University of Victoria in 2001 after completing her Ph.D. in musicology at Princeton University. She is now Director of the School where she teaches courses in Renaissance and Baroque music. Her research interests include sacred and secular music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Her work is enriched by the perspectives of genre studies, cultural history, print culture, and reception histories. She has authored two books: Editing Music in Early Modern Germany (Ashgate Press, 2007) and The Madrigal: A Research and Information Guide (Routledge Press, 2011). Her research is funded by a four-year Insight Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (2012-2016).
