Born in Samsun (Turkey) in 1977, Senem Kaymaz Koca has graduated from Istanbul Technical University Department of Architecture in 2001. She took her MSc degree from the same university in 2005, with thesis entitled ‘Placelessness in Contemporary Architecture’. After working as architect in several architectural offices in Istanbul between 2001 and 2005, she worked as research assistant at Bahceşehir University Faculty of Architecture between 2005 and 2007. Her PhD in Architectural Design at Yıldız Technical University was completed in 2012, with thesis entitled ‘The Potentials Endowed upon Space by Information Flows and an Attempt to Read an Information City: The Case of Istanbul’.
She worked in the Department of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University as research assistant between 2007 and 2015. She has been working in the Department of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University as an assistant professor since 2015. She has been joining the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Nottingham an academic visitor to carry out the research project titled “A Conceptualisation of ‘Thirdplace’: Exploring Embedded Expressions in Between Spatial Trilogies” between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016. She is still in sabbatical leave in England.
Her research fields concentrate on information city, architectural design theories and theories of space and place. She has published many academic articles in national and international journals and attended many international symposiums and workshops. She is a member of Chamber of Architects in Turkey.
