In my previous career as a teacher of English and Art at an upper secondary school in Denmark, I often worked with museums to develop and carry out museum-based coursework for my students in both subjects. I completed a master's in museology in 2007, after which I launched a regional project whose purpose was to explore and experiment with museum-school partnerships. This project eventually evolved into a national association of museum-school partnerships, which I manage together with a museum director. I completed my PhD dissertation at Aarhus University in 2014 entitled “Interface learning - New goals for museum and upper secondary school collaboration”, which focused on partnership collaboration between upper secondary schools and museums as well as the learning outcomes of students doing coursework planned and carried out by their teachers in collaboration with their partner museum. My research and experience have inspired me to initiate and do follow-up research on many other types of museum-school collaborative projects.
