 This master-after-master program focuses on the interaction between conflict and development in the Global South. In this program approaches and insights are being used from diverse disciplines such as political sciences, anthropology, development studies and sociology. The main objective is to gain insight and knowledge about topics of development and conflict and to develop the necessary research competences to make scientific analyses. A lot of attention is been paid to concrete interventions by governments and international organizations. The program allows the student to make a choice, according to his own preferences, between a policy approach and a scientific approach. The program is linked with two research groups: the Conflict Research Group and the Middle East & North Africa Research Group. The strength of this program is situated in its attention to fieldwork as methodology in order to understand processes of conflict and development and to formulate concrete recommendations. This approach is especially interesting for students who want to build a career in professional development cooperation in the Global South and North.  Master dissertation: The transition in post-Saddam Iraq: limits and consequences of top-down democratization.
