Professor Hovland received an undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and a masters and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. After teaching for five years at the University of Texas at Austin, she has taught advertising at the University of Tennessee for over two decades. Her research focuses on international issues, legal and regulatory matters involving advertising and questions about gender and media. She is the author or coauthor of three books and numerous articles.
