    On relocating to South Africa in 1979, Dr, Professor Gray worked for Unisa developing guide books for Practical English. She moved to the University of Pretoria in 1984, initiating postgraduate courses in PanAfrican Studies, Civil War in Africa and its literary representations, Anglo-Saxon and Middle English modules and the prison experience. She co-edited an anthology of poetry and one on short stories, now in its 10th edition. Returning to the University of South Africa after retirement, she functioned as Managing Editor of the International Journal for African Renaissance Studies.
