Alerechi is a senior lecturer in Linguistics in the University of Port Harcourt and specialises in Phonetics and Phonology, Historical and Comparative Linguistics, as well as Applied Linguistics. In addition to routine teaching, she has supervised projects at the undergraduate and post- graduate with a number of publications to her name. . Apart from encouraging students' research in this area, she has organised five conferences and one workshop in this field. Outside academics, she sews, gardens and preaches the Christian gospel.
