Ricardo K. S. Mak is Professor of History at Hong Kong Baptist University. He received his PhD. in History and Political Science from the University of Regensburg. Specializing in modern historical methods and theories, Sino-German relations and modern Chinese intellectual history, he has published over forty articles and reviews on related topics. He is the author of Transmitting the Ideal of Enlightenment: Chinese Universities since the Late Nineteenth Century (Lanham: University Press of America, 2009), Jindai shixue yu shixue fungfu (Modern historiography and historical methods) (Taipei: Wunan tushu, 2000) and The Future of the Non-Western World in the Social Sciences of Nineteenth Century England (Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang, 1998) and co-editor of China Reconstructs (Lanham: University Press of America, 2003).
