  I am an associate professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Deakin University in Melbourne where I teach in all levels of Indoneisan language and culture. My background is in public health, however, and I have worked extensively in Indonesia. My research focuses on language and culture in health and the way in which people view their own health experience. I have written a number of books and articles on language related topics as well as the influence of culture in health and other areas.
