Graduated with a PhD from Iwate University, Japan with a major in Science of Biotic Environment (Physiological ecology/nutrition)and also a Masters in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Staffordshire University, UK. AIEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, UK). My research interests extend from agro-ecological sciences to the socio-ecological field: (i) using the 'knowledge-boundary management-action' concept particularly the use of environmental/ecological knowledge systems as a sociological adaptive management strategy against vulnerability in human-environmental/ecological system. My current work is focused on environmental sustainability of educational, business and public institutions (within Greater Sendai Regional Centre of Expertise, some of whose public and educational activities I am involved in) in areas of effective use of practical approaches such as awareness creation, acquiring relevant forms of knowledge about sustainability issues through learning and training and also, putting the skills into action to achieving sustainability. I am also interested in agro-ecological sustainability regarding 'climate change induced' environmental stresses particularly flooding and drought, metal toxicity and acidity on the nutrio/eco-physiological aspects of plants and the related tolerance mechanisms at the community, whole plant and cellular levels and also, ecological restoration particularly phytoremediation of polluted environments.
