Dr. Penning is interested in the sociology of health and health care as well as aging. In particular, she is interested in examining self, informal and formal care in relation to issues of chronic illness and disability in middle and later life, the impact of structural inequalities on health and health care, and health care restructuring and reform in the Canadian context. She is currently a principal investigator of a program of research focusing on transitions and trajectories in late life care. She also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal on Aging.
