I am a tenured faculty member in music history and the graduate coordinator for our nearly 100 graduate students (with approximately 25% international students). My PhD is from the Ohio State University (1989; dissertation on Welsh musical activities in America). I have been on the faculty at Ball State since 1991. My area of speciality is American music, particularly of the 19th and 20th centuries, and I have an interest in American popular song as well. I am an active member of the Society for American Music and of the College Music Society. My teaching load includes American Music, 20th Century music, Special Topics (such as Music and War or Romanticism and Modernism), Bibliography and Research, and Introduction to Ethnomusicology, among other classes. I have been a speaker for our campus diversity program. I have several referred articles published as well as a book on the vocal style of Barbra Streisand and a book on the Home Demonstration Clubs choirs of Indiana.
