Dr. Weinhardt's primary focus is in developing effective primary and secondary HIV-prevention interventions that can be implemented widely in resource-poor settings. These include brief interventions for STD clinic patients with alcohol problems and an individually-tailored computerized risk reduction intervention. He is currently studying whether brief sexual behavior interview-based interventions reduce risk behavior in South Africa, and he is studying the effects of sustainable economic development programs on food security and health outcomes in sub Saharan Africa. Dr. Weinhardt's wider interests include how social, economic, and behavioral approaches can be combined to increase resilience and reduce disease in resource-poor settings.
