I am a PH.D. student, a female Korean diaspora, at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Having an M.Div. and an MA in the area of anthropology and sociology and religion, I am working hard toward the completion of my dissertation and a graduation in May, 2015. My dissertation topic is the Korean diasporic shamanism that has been practiced within the predominantly protestantized Korean diasporic community, particularly concentrated on its practice in northeastern region in the U.S. Having had three main shaman informants and some clients, I have worked a field research for about 7 years, including a short period of stay in a diasporic shamanic shrine in Pennsyvania. My dissertation will be one of the first main work of the Korean disasporic shamanism in the U.S.
I am currently involved in a co-chair leadership of a panel in the Mid-Atlantic regional American Academy of Religion while having paper presentations in various conferences and Teaching Assistant experience.
