Kim is an award winning educator, who recently was awarded the inaugural biannual award (AEREtA) by the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA). The award recognises an outstanding contribution to research in art and design education with no restrictions on language. The field of research in art and design education is rich and diverse and is broadly interpreted to include, formal and informal sectors, although predominantly visual arts including multimedia and practice-based approaches to education through art. Kim’s research was recognised as foregrounding the potential of education though art as well as being an innovative approach to scholarly enquiry. This award recognises research that realises exemplary conceptual and methodological application, that adds to the literature and our understanding of the potential of visual education. Kim's award built on her 2016 UNSW SEF#3 Teaching Fellowship: New Approaches to the Development of Professional Identity Through Independent Critical Reflection. This project impacted all undergraduate students and programs at the Faculty of Art & Design, at UNSW Sydney, through the development of a robust approach to the various ways that students reflect on, document and account for their creative processes and learning in professional domains. Kim recently showcased her work at a PVCE Connections Seminar - Visual Encounters: Digital Ecologies in Art, Design & Media https://teaching.unsw.edu.au/visual-encounters-digital-ecologies-art-design-media.
