  Dr Thomas was a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business, at the Australian Defence Force Academy, UNSW and taught on both post-graduate and under-graduate programs at ADFA and also at the Australian Command and Staff course in the Australian Defence College, Weston Creek. Subjects taught include Leadership in Organisations, Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. Before joining UNSW, he was the Deputy Program Director of the Master of International Business at the Graduate School of Management (GSM) in La Trobe University where he taught on the MBA program; subjects included Organisational Behaviour, Leadership and Management, and Developing People and High Performance Organisations. He is currently working as a Visiting Fellow at the Defence Security Applications Research Centre at the Defence Academy of UNSW. He has completed a PhD in Education (Title: Understanding Educational Process in Leadership Development) from Deakin University, Victoria in 2003. He also has an MBA (Macquarie University); a Graduate Diploma in Strategic Studies (SDSC – ANU); a Graduate Diploma in Information Systems (CCAE); a Graduate Diploma in Defence Studies (Joint Services Staff College); Bachelor of Arts, Royal Military College, UNSW.
