Justine Grace is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, currently based in Firenze, Italy. Her thesis is entitled ‘Christian avant-gardism: Italian modernism under the auspices of French neo-Thomism’. Her research focuses on the enduring presence of the sacred in modern and contemporary art. She has previously published articles in refereed journals, including: ‘The dialectic of Marxism and Christianity in the work of Renato Guttuso, Aligi Sassu and Giacomo Manzù’, Traffic, 11, 2009; ‘Death as presence: Bill Viola’s Ocean Without a Shore’, Philament, 15, 2009; ‘Review: Nathalie Djurberg Experimentet’, antiTHESIS, 20, 2010. Justine has received many awards and grants such as Australian Postgraduate Award; Eugenie La Gerche Scholarship; Gandioli Fumagalli Milan Internship; Emma Grollo Memorial Scholarship and Norman Macgeorge Travelling Scholarship.
