Westcott House Design-Build Studio BiographyJohn Reynolds is a Registered Architect (Virginia), and Director of The Fallingwater and Burton J. Westcott Design-Build Studios in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University. John received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and his Master of Architecture Degree from the University of Virginia in 1985. He currently teaches courses in Landscape and Urban Design, Contemporary Architectural Theory and Practice, Graphic Media, and Modern Vernacular Architecture while leading Architectural Design Studios. He directed Architecture Graduate Studies 2001-2010 before becoming director of the Fallingwater Institute for Environmental Stewardship, Sustainability, and Building Craft (2010-2015) where he directed the Fallingwater Cottages International Design Competition and the design and construction of The Servants Sitting Room Interior Design, Fallingwater Entry Architectural Surfaces, Fallingwater Education Campus Master Plan and Guest Artist Housing. Currently at the Burton J. Westcott House, Reynolds and his design-build studio are coordinating the design of a master plan, visitor center, and environmental studies pavilion with Peter Bohlin and Bohlin, Cywinski Jackson. His research focuses on contemporary European architectural theory, architectural sustainability, Organic Architecture, and Modern Vernacular Architecture. His design, research, and design-build projects for Fallingwater, Bear Run, PA and Le Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines, Luxembourg have been exhibited and published internationally. Select publications include The Journal of Architectural Education (MIT Press), 306090 07: Landscape Within Architecture (Princeton Architectural Press), and the Italian design journal AND. Reynolds was a recent contributing author to two books, The Nature of Circumstance (Rizzoli) and Fallingwater (Rizzoli). Professor Reynolds has received numerous teaching awards including: The Miami University School of Fine Arts Crossan Hayes Curry Distinguished Educator Award and The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Collaborative Practice Award. Prior to joining Miami University, Professor Reynolds pursued architectural practice with two internationally recognized firms, Eisenman-Robertson Architects, New York, NY and Charlottesville, VA and Tigerman, Fugman, McCurry Architects, Chicago, IL.
