Joan Marie Kelly has an artistic education and profession spanning four continents. Educated in the USA, teaching position at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore since 2005, international solo exhibitions in New York and New Delhi, Beijing Biennale, group exhibitions in Italy, France, Bangladesh, Morocco, Mexico, Russia, Korea, Thailand and Egypt. She has pursued a career of art making as objects;paintings. Yet Asia inspired her to develop a social art practice. She initiates artistic encounters with minority communities while she also lives as a minority in Southeast Asia. Art making is a means to forge relationships, an aesthetic wit(h)nessing in the sense that Bracha Ettinger expands the testimonial meaning of bearing witness to simultaneously include being with, not assimilating to, but to being beside one another. She has conducted extended social art workshops in neighborhoods of Kolkata, Shenzhen, Fez, and Singapore, empowering people through creativity. 2017, she is the 2nd prize winner in the Glover Painting Prize, Australia. Her recent solo exhibitions were held in Blue Mountain Gallery New York City, Visual Arts Gallery Habitat Center New Delhi India, Fez Morocco, and Smith College. Her recent publication is Invisible Personas published by Authorhouse 2019.
