  In 2009 Jim Hamlyn was appointed an Established Member of the IDEAS Research Institute of The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. He lectures both in Contemporary Art Practice and Art Theory both in Aberdeen and at The Glasgow School of Art and his work has been exhibited in such countries as Egypt, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the USA. Jim's theoretical work centres on a causal account of the role of nonverbal representation in perception and is informed in particular by philosophy in the Analytic tradition, particularly the later work of Ludwig Wittgenstein, Gilbert Ryle and more recently Peter Hacker and the neuropsychologist Max Bennett.
