Born in Bogotá, Colombia, I have a Missouri State University B.S. in Economics, a University of Florida MAT in Sociology, Development and Education, and a UC Berkeley PhD in Latin American, Environmental and Cultural Studies. I was Deputy Director of Colombia’s Environmental Agency and Latin American Coordinator for Environmental Education at CIFCA/UNEP in Madrid. I left Colombia over a decade ago because of its perilous social conflict, and after a few turns of fortune this past decade, through a formal international search, I was invited to join the faculty of the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. CCA is a thriving art, architecture and design institution with a rapidly growing emphasis in environmental studies and the humanities. As such, it has been a wonderful base from which to expand my long-term interest in aesthetics, philosophy, and media studies, on top of my life-long experience in environmental and social sciences and pedagogy. This in turn led me to EcoDomics and the Aesthetic(s) of the Common(s), a conceptual/ social practice synthesis I am developing along the lines of biopolitical production.
