Deteriorating economic health of farms

In my recent research, I have discovered reports indicating a larger portion of the family and moderate-sized farms have negligible incomes. Most farms are losing money or making very little income for the extensive hours of work. Economic studies and government programs expect farm families to earn off-farm income to live on. Many farmers are commenting how they must sell in more farmers markets to achieve the same income while enduring more costs. Although innovative farmers continue to evolve their businesses to try address these issues, there are more farmers are having to give up the businesses they love because they cannot afford to farm without a return. How long will local farms survive?
