Originally from Pearl City, IL (USA), Heidi is currently a PhD student in Media and Communications at The University of Tartu in Estonia. Her M.A. in EU-Russia studies focused on the role international news media plays in shaping the way geographically separate communities view international events and her current research continues to focus on the language and online mediated interaction as a factor in political identity formation through research funding of the Estonian Research Council PUT1624: "Civic identity and transnational media practices of the Baltic Russian-speaking populations in the context of political crisis". Her current research investigates the relations between international news coverage, national representations, and local perceptions of current events and local identities particularly of Russian speaking populations in Europe.
