Ghiasuddin Pir is an Assistant Professor at the 'School of Culture & Language' at the Institute for Art & Culture, Lahore. He holds an MA in 'Anthropology & Behavioural Studies' from the University of Aberdeen, UK. His research interests include cultural hegemony, transhumance pastoralism, participatory development and exploring gender as social construct. Pir has been involved in curriculum development, and implementation of development initiatives within and beyond Pakistan. He has worked collectively with the Government of Pakistan and UNESCO for the formation of the first ever intangible cultural heritage inventory of Pakistan and the preparation of a nomination dossier for UNESCO's list of Intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding. "Suri Jagek: the Kalasha meteorological and astronomical practice of observing the Sun, Moon, Stars and Shadows" was the element chosen for inscription on the list and is Paksitan's first ever successful independent inscription.
