The area of interest for my research is looking into the management of type 2 diabetes. I noticed from talking to migrant communities and consulting with the literature that this people are at higher risk of developing diabetes and having poorer health outcomes. However, there seem to be the perception that type 2 diabetes is not common among this population when i talked to people from this community. I decided to focus of African immigrants as the population of interest and conducting a qualitative study to better understand the management process of those that are living with type 2 diabetes. This has several implication for practice but one important to mention is the need for health practitonre and research communities to change this perception. This can be done by letting people how the magnitude of the disease burden among this population to serve as a wake-up call for improved diabetes control.
