Fatemeh Shahani is a Ph.D. student at Community Planning and Development Program, La Trobe University, Australia. She started her Ph.D. in 2014 after she was awarded a La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Her Ph.D. research project focuses on identifying design principles for parks and open spaces, with a specific focus on the needs of the Muslim community. She received B.S. degree in Landscape and Architecture from University of Tehran, Iran, in 2007 and M.A. degree in Urban and Regional Planning and Design from Islamic Azad University, Iran, in 2010. She has been in Tehran Municipality as an urban planner in City Planning and Development Department for 7 years (2007-2014). She has taught as a lecturer /visiting lecturer at La Trobe University in Melbourne and at Islamic Azad University (IAU) in Iran. She has done some community plans program in Victoria, Australia regarding better plan for regional people, meanwhile, she is a member of “theory reading group” at La Trobe University. She is the author of 5 articles and co-author of 7 books. Her research interest includes “Urban Planning, Sustainable Development, Greenway planning and strategy, Urban and community strategic planning, Urban multicultural planning, Islamic - Persian gardens”.
