Dominic Sagar a fully qualified architect, was a founding partner in Sagar Stevenson Architects, [SSA] a practice set up in 1989 in a run down area of the City centre of Manchester. SSA were key figures in setting up the community led 'Northern Quarter Association' [NQA] in the area. Both SSA and NQA were instrumental in spear heading the regeneration of this area, now known as ‘The Northern Quarter’.
SSA were part of the ‘Urbanistics’ team commissioned to carry out the first Northern Quarter Regeneration Strategy and master planning, which was adopted by the city as a frame work for the regeneration of the area.
More recently, his time has been more devoted to teaching, having previously been an Associate Lecturer at Liverpool School of Architecture and now a full time lecturer at Manchester School of Architecture
Dominic’s research centres on urban regeneration, mainly focussing on Manchester. He has a keen interest in music and the arts and their relation to cities, as a tool for regeneration. [Especially Manchester & detroit]He is now concentrating on developing a more academic research profile, currently undertaking research on the regeneration of The Northern Quarter, past, present and more importantly the future in relation to Community Architecture, the current economic climate and indeed climate change, submitting abstracts for conference papers with a view to publishing.
