  I am currently a PhD student at Ulster University, Northern Ireland. My PhD research draws on my vast experience within the sporting field. I am the former World Kickboxing Association Ladies European Kickboxing Champion and I have represented Northern Ireland at World and European level on numerous occasions. In 1995, I created history when I fought in the first all-womens professional boxing card in the Aladdin Hotel, Las Vegas. Later, I was the first women to box professionally in Northern Ireland in the Ulster Hall, Belfast in October 2000. However it was my successful sex discrimination case against the Boxing Union of Ireland in 2000 which has informed my current PhD research. Hence my doctoral research criitically examines the status of women in boxing in the USA, UK and Ireland and the role law plays in regulating gender equality within the sport.
