Teaching first grade for 34 years has allowed me to understand and implement the "art of teaching reading". As I worked on my Specialist degree in Curriculum, I was asked to join the faculty at Augusta University as part time faculty. I have taught a variety of reading and assessment classes at both undergrad and graduate levels. After retiring from teaching first grade, I was asked to be the K-5 CSRA RESA Literacy Consultant and provide professional learning for 12 districts in our state. I continue to teach at Augusta University and focus on working with the undergrads in developing strategy reading lesson plans. Teaching Reading is my passion and I am constantly researching new ideas and collecting more mentor texts to share with those I teach.
