Brown has been faculty at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work since 2011. Brown is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Field Education. Previously, Brown served as Visiting Clinical Associate Professor in Field Education and taught courses in clinical practice, human behavior and mental health, and grief and loss.
Before teaching at USC, Brown was a school clinician at Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services in Los Angeles, CA. While there, she designed and supervised a field practicum for MSW students from USC and UCLA.
Brown has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults suffering from severe mental illness, autism spectrum disorders, substance use recovery, and trauma. Her clinical training includes a post-graduate fellowship at the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in Los Angeles, CA and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ) Therapy. She is also a board certified dance/movement therapist.
In her private psychotherapy practice, Brown’s work with individuals, groups, and communities emphasizes the importance of the body in recovering from trauma, and the inherently healing nature of dance, movement, and creative expression. Brown works closely with the SIMS Foundation in Austin, TX, providing mental health care to musicians and their families.
Brown earned her MA in Dance from UCLA and her MSW from UCLA. She is a licensed clinical social worker in California and Texas.
