Colin Rosewell was born in Bristol, England, where he underwent elementary, primary, and secondary education. Upon leaving secondary school with outstanding accreditations in art in 1978 he was granted a place at The University of Bristol, but due to government cut-backs the art course was cancelled.Forced by these circumstances, he sought regular employment, finding work as a factory labourer (1978-79), a sales estimator (1980-83), a production control assistant (1983-85), a window and door fabricator (1985-86), and a court reporter (1989-90). After a brief period of employment as a kitchen attendant in 1993, he enrolled in Sydney College of TAFE (Technical and Further Education) in 1994 to pursue a career path as a chef, and gaining employment in various establishments both in Sydney and on the Central Coast. After successfully gaining a Trade Certificate (Certificate III) in Commercial Cookery in 1998, he enrolled in the Fine Art program at The University of Newcastle (Central Coast Campus) to continue his passion for art, successfully gaining a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) in 2002, a BFA Honours (first class) in 2003, and eventually a Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Art (PhD) in 2010. Since 2003 he has worked as a technical officer, lecturer in new media (digital imaging), painting and drawing, at The University of Newcastle (Central Coast Campus), and currently provides teaching services in the fine arts at The Hunter Institute of TAFE Newcastle.
