  I am currently a postdoctoral faculty fellow at New York University, where I teach global premodern arts and cultures, ranging from ancient Mesopotamia to pre-Columbian Mesoamerica to Chaucer's England. My research examines the role of identity (race, gender, species) in the political developments of early English imperialism in the Middle Ages. I specialize in Welsh literature and Welsh resistance to English colonizing rhetorics.

  I completed my doctoral work in English at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. My research focused on the racial dynamic of interactions between the Welsh and English in the long twelfth century. Drawing on literary texts and historical chronicles, I examined the identity politics undergirding the political history of early English imperialism.
