As an Assistant Professor at Chicago State University, Bryon Martin, Ph.D. has maintained a steady focus on sport education research, teaching, and service. Martin’s endeavors include athletes for social change research involving wheelchair basketball referees, the study of training, placement, evaluation, and advancement protocol of collegiate baseball umpires, the socio-cultural challenges facing sports officials, and sports officiating curriculum development. Martin enjoys the integration of service learning and youth development in teaching courses such as administration, programming, and technology in physical education, recreation, and sport. Martin is a member of the university athletics committee and serves as a volunteer at sporting events for persons with disabilities. Prior to working in higher education, Martin’s professional experience exposed him to sport in areas such as professional and collegiate baseball umpiring, municipal recreation management, corrections recreation programming, commercial fitness management, and resort management. In his leisure time, Martin enjoys fishing, boating, gardening, and classic car shows.
