  I am an Economic Development Practitioner with over 10 years experience working in Local Government in Australia. I will be attending the Ageing and Society Conference in Japan as part of a study-tour scholarship I was awarded by Economic Development Australia. The purpose of the study tour is to learn how Japan is adapting to the huge shift in demographics caused by an aging society, in combination with a shrinking population size. I will be doing various site visits over a 10 day period in Japan and the findings of my trip will be presented at the 'National Economic Development Conference' being hosted in Australia in October 2018. I am particularly interested in learning about new technologies and niche businesses which have emerged as a result in the change of demographics.
