Arnold White’s Updates

Who am I

I was born in Chicago and graduated High School in 1987 before joining the Air Force.  I started out as a Law Enforcement Specialist. Over 12 years I was stationed in Germany, Colorado, North Dakota, Omaha and I did a 4-month stretch in the United Arab Emirates.  I worked in several positions that included Patrolman, Desk Sgt, Plans and Programs, Quality Control and my favorite as a Criminal Investigator.  In 2000 the Air Force did some force shaping and decided I needed to cross train into a different field.  I quickly found myself working in Command and Control (Emergency Management).

After completing the Command and Control technical training I was sent to Scott AFB and worked in an Air Operations Center managing airlift across the globe.  I supervised a crew of 5 and we were responsible for airlift between the Mississippi River east to India Pakistan border. After a few years I was sent to South Korea for a year and I returned to Scott AFB where I returned to the Operations center but with increased responsibility.  The organization was reorganized and my span of control went from a crew of 5 to a crew of 20 and we managed airlift around the globe.  After a position change I became the superintendent and I supervised over 60 members and oversaw the current operations division.

After a few special assignments and a promotion, I moved to the Higher Headquarters in a different building on Scott AFB where I was responsible for Operations, Training, and Budget, for about 25 joint service military (Army, Navy and Marines) and government contractors.  During that time, I competed a BS in Criminal Justice.  Most of the classes were online but I took several courses in the classroom.

After retiring from the Air Force I was able to find employment in the Emergency Management arena working in the command’s Nuclear Operations Division where we develop training and operation directives for Command Post Controllers and KC-135 Air Refueling Crews.  We have several bases within the United States that participate in our program so we travel to their units and evaluate their operations.  My hope is that earning my HRD degree will help me with development of subordinates, improving processes and may give me a leg up when it comes to promotion opportunities.

Throughout my travels and playing soldier I met a lovely lady who I married and we have one child who is a Senior in College.
