  I trained in mechanical engineering at Round Oak steel works and was appointed as a designer and then senior engineer. I have taught in a number of educational educational establishments and gained my PhD in 2001 entitled 'The Development of an Effective Learning Environment in Higher Education for Product Design'. I am presently employed as Director of Research in the department of Architecture and Product Design. I lead an 'Inclusive Design', 'Design Sustainability', and 'Multidisciplinary Approaches to Design' research group and provide a consultancy to industry through knowledge transfer partnerships. My research interests include product design and development and technology supported learning in higher education where significant research papers have been published. Less
