Dr. Shelton is APR Accredited and is widely known for being energetic, creative and a strong advocate of service learning and community engagement. Dr. Shelton has proven experience in the development, administration, and assessment of college communication curricula; demonstrated success in identifying and responding to trends and developing practices in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education in the broad field of communications, and experience in instructional technology. Dr. Shelton has the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and to serve as an effective liaison and leader. A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Shelton is widely traveled, and has taught internationally. Prior to Roger Williams University, Dr. Shelton taught at Texas State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has previous experience in the television industry, working for Tribune Corporation, LIN-TV, The New York Times and Meredith Corporation. She publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals on community engagement in classrooms, PR as a management function, curriculum design, and the impact of mass media on society. In addition, Dr. Shelton works closely with students regarding research projects, independent studies and new course opportunities, including travel courses both domestically and internationally. Originally from Chicago, she lives in Barrington, and loves WWII books & movies.
