I am working in the nursery of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) since 1982. The research that I am involved is in the planting stock production for the reforestation and afforestation of the country especially on the indigenous species of dipterocarp which is found mainly in the South East Asia. The break through success in propagating dipterocarp species through rooted cuttings has been a boon to the forestry of Malaysia as it provides solution of obtaining planting stocks for reforestation projects of the country which was in the past hindered by this problem. Another break through is the mass propagation of Labisia pumila, through leaf cuttings using a low technology non mist propagation system. This medicinal plant species is usually collected from the forest is now very much in demand by the herbal and pharmaceutical industries. It will face serious extinction and severe genetic loss if it is not domesticated and cultivated. I am currently being engaged as a consultant by a pharmaceutical company to domesticate this species. I have until now published about 100 papers in journals, proceedings, handbooks, etc. My research has received recognition in the form publication and invention awards in the country. Besides publications, I have transferred my research results to those involved in the forestry sectors through talks, courses, consultancies, seminars and conferences both locally and internationally.
