Currently teaching graphic and publication design on the Bachelor of Design, I practised in London UK from 1967 to 1990 before moving to New Zealand. After ‘apprenticing’ with Robin Fior for three years, and assisting with The Black Dwarf I designed maps, charts and diagrams for two ‘part–publication’ magazines, briefly art–directed Frendz, an underground magazine in 1971, then moved to Ireland for five years. On return I taught on the BTEC Higher National Diploma at Colchester Insitute, Essex for two years. My MPhil (Architecture) thesis was titled “Self–learning, Transformative Praxis and Ideaware”. My article ‘Designing the Real World’ was recently published in ‘Looking Closer Five’. ‘Interpreting the Rhetoric of Contextual Instrumentality’ was a refereed paper written for the Research into Practice conference, University of Hertfordshire UK, and went online at ‘Working Papers in Art and Design’ in 2006.
