Scientific Research vs Nonscientific Research (Common sense)

Knowledge can be acquired differently, that is, either through our sixth sense (common sense) or through scientific methods. Some information can be accepted as knowledge through subjective means such as tradition or custom. However, such knowledge can be disputed by those who are not part of custom or tradition. It, therefore, becomes extremely difficult to sustain an argument for the tradition to an outsider to believe it, hence socially, children are accustomed to tradition through frightening myths. In business, such subjective information cannot be relied on, hence the need for scientific research to inform decision making. The characteristics that differentiate scientific research from common sense has come to be known as the "Hallmarks of Scientific Research.
