EDUC 499: Greece - Summer 2019’s Updates

Financial Crisis and Education System

The financial crisis and education system in Greece are directly related to one another. When the finanical crisis happened not only was the economy affected but the education system was as well. Surprisingly there were some positive affects.

The financial crisis affected schools like Athens university where students were paying for degrees in fields that there were not even job opportunities due to the unemployment in Greece at the time. In additon, primary schools were affected by increased classroom sizes, less resources and materials, fewer fieldtrips and support.

Despite these difficulties that the education system faced, it caused the connection between the community and schools to be at its peak. They were needing to work together in order to have the most success and opportunities.
