EDUC 499: Greece - Summer 2019’s Updates

Greece's History and Culture Update

I found these videos of Greece to be very interesting and fun to watch! Something I found interesting and I am excited to learn more about is the environment in Greece and the way it is treated and experienced. I think that is something that is not as common in the United States, and specifically in the Midwest. I got the opportunity to go to Hawaii a year and a half ago and when I was there, I learned a lot about the way the land in Hawaii is treated and respected by locals which is something that I felt emulating from the Discover Greece video. I can’t wait to experience Greece and spend time in its beauty. I also found the greeting video delightful and really appreciated the friendliness of the culture. In my experience with Latinx families, kisses on the cheek and hugs are very common greetings as well unlike in the United States.

Greece’s history as talked about in the Geography video is very deep and rich. I did not know how many islands were part of Greece and the fact that there are other islands surrounding the area that have yet to be inhabited. Their cultural layout is also interesting and different than the U.S., as it is made up mostly by ethnic Greeks and is vastly taken over by tourists. They have a growing population which, when considered with their economic situation, leads to a very specific and niche worker layout.

I cannot wait to go to Greece soon and learn more about the country while we are there!
