EDUC 499: Greece - Summer 2019’s Updates

Greek Financial Crisis and Education

After reading the resources this week, I got quite an insight into what impact the financial crisis has had on the Greek education system. Public spending cuts and recruitment freezes of public workers has impacted wages as well as contracts for other teachers. The budget cut caused a lot of the schools to lower significantly in efficiency, as well as quality. As there is such a diverse student population, programs and the system couldn’t keep up with the cut. Because of the crisis, some classes were affected and that in turn causes lack of completeness in an individual’s education. People aren’t able to get the jobs they want/need if they cannot go get an education to support that. With the cuts also comes more unemployment, another contributor in the job market.
