EDUC 499: Greece - Summer 2019’s Updates

History and Culture

I enjoyed watching these videos. They were very informal and fun, yet very informational. To start off with, I think it is CRAZY that 40% of the population lives only in the capital. I can't imagine having so many people concentrated in one area of the United States like that. I was unaware that Macedonia was actually part of Greece, which was interesting to learn.

As for the number of islands that Greece has, it is insane that only 220 out of 2000 islands are inhabited. Are many of the other ones even inhabitable? Could they make them be for the large 40% of the population in Athens alone? How many people actually will use a mule before a car in Skyros and Hydra?

It blows my mind that over 80% of the revenue is from tourism. They literally count on others from around the world to stay put. Another interesting thing is the amount of older people in Greece. The next generation is going to be much smaller than the current one, and so I wonder what effects that could potentially have on the economy?
