e-Learning Ecologies MOOC’s Updates
Essential Update #1
Social media applications are used over multiple platforms to send messages, pictures, videos or used simply for chatting purposes.
Since recent times I have been using Whatsapp as a medium to connect with medical students to answer their queries based on either text or images that they send to me. Also, I get the opportunity to refer them to certain academic books or articles to update their knowledge on a specific subject.
I believe it is an essential part of ubiquitous learning and my college has initiated the plan of introducing e - learning method of teaching medical students.
The software that they are promoting is known as D2L (Desire 2 Learn). It is a course management system that is used to deliver learning resources to students including interactive sessions like online classrooms, discussion boards, submission of assignments, evaluation and assessment of students etc.
I have a very positive attitude to the changes being brought about with softwares and tools that are being used to improve teaching and learning. With the immense resources at hand and almost every individual connected to the web this becomes a great opportunity to bring education right on to the palm of the students. Also being connected helps the educator to assess and analyze the students progress too.
Hi Syed
Thanks for your post. I never thought of using What's App as I usually use that to connect with family & friends. I mostly use Facebook to connect with students & LinkedIn with professionals. I find segregating it as such helps to draw boundaries between work & pleasure.
