Negotiating Learner Differences MOOC’s Updates

My Experience as a Teacher in a Private University

As a teacher in a nonprofit private university, I teach a class every quarter; every two months. This means I have so 4 to 5 different groups of students in each class coming from different cities, societies and cultures. In addition, they belong to various classes with completely different mindsets. Thus, I have to be aware of such diversity and reaching a certain level of proficiency is required in order to deal with them. As it might sound challenging, it is interesting, though, and I'm really doing all of my best to achieve our goals with fewer mistakes and best outcomes.

As it might be challenging, I feel interested at the beginning of each quarter to have a new group full of so many life stories. Since I was born in a family which ancestry traces back to at least three different societies and living in a city that has nothing to do with these cultures, I feel blessed as this fate will not lead to being racist to a specific tribe or group of people. This also leads me to always encourage my students to accept, live and enjoy the diversity backgrounds they all come from and belong to. We actually live in a society that is growing so fast every year. The healthy family and environment we live in can also affect our attitudes towards learning process and to life in general.

However, as it sounds too overwhelming when it comes to dealing with differences that are related to having some critical cases in the class in which students suffer from mental issues, I believe that continuous professional development is mandatory to encounter such an issue and to make sure that we will be able to help our students be successful at the end of each course as well as the future and their own lives.
