Didactic pedagogy

Didactic pedagogy, characterized by lecture-based teaching where the instructor delivers information to passive students, is appropriate in situations where foundational knowledge needs to be efficiently conveyed, such as in introductory courses or when preparing for standardized assessments. It is also effective when the teacher has specialized expertise that needs to be shared in a clear and organized manner. However, didactic pedagogy becomes anachronistic when it results in passive learning, lacks practical application, limits student interaction, and fails to accommodate diverse learning styles. To remain effective and relevant, didactic teaching should be complemented with active learning strategies, such as discussions, group work, and hands-on activities, to foster deeper understanding and engagement.
